About the contest

Moders technologies more and more rely on Linux based solutions. It certanly became fundamental for all modern cloud technologies and for solutions for automatic systems deployment and provisioning. The demand for IT professionals who have experience in designing and implementing solutions based on Linux is extremely high, and one of the key requirements is writting scripts in BASH command shell (Bourne Again SHell).

This competition is aimed at assessing expertise in BASH programming.

The competition is designed for IT professionals with more then 5 years of experience in the field, who have to use BASH in their daily activities to solve complex and various tasks.

According to the regulations, the following participants have been selected among those who had submitted applications for participations in prescribed time.


Refereeing Commission

The results of the participants will be evaluated by the Refereeing Commission which includes the world’s leading experts in the field of Linux-solutions. The selection was carried out according to the following criteria:

  • More then 8 years of experience in the subject area
  • Experience in implementing international projects
  • Project management experience
  • Experience in mentoring other experts in various subject areas
  • Previous refereeing experience
  • Presents of one or more internationally recognized expert certifications in the subject area

Competition regulations

Pre-registration is required to participate in the contest.

Applications are accepted on the official website of the competition https://bash-contest-2019.pro/en starting from the 29th of March 2019 and continues until midnight on the 12th of April 2019. Moscow time.

The contest opens on April 13th 2019 at 09: 00. At this time list of tasks becomes available on the contest website https://bash-contest-2019.pro/en together with forms for results upload. The competition finishes on April 14th 2019 at 21:00. No results are accepted after this time.

The participants must solve the given tasks using BASH. The solutions should be uploaded in format of a txt file in the field below each task. Two-stage analysis process of the uploaded solutions starts right after the end of the contest.

At the first stage, the automatic system discards solutions that do not match the expected results.

At the second stage the Refereeing Commission evaluates the decisions according to the following criteria:

  • Simplicity of the solution
  • Efficiency (speed of operation)
  • Originality
  • Usage of external utilities (solutions with builtin BASH utilities will be rated higher)
